Incomprehensible and Inexcusable

Incomprehensible and Inexcusable

Many of us have witnessed the death of George Floyd which was chronicled in a 10-minute by-stander video. To me, the video evidence indicates some form of murder as the law enforcement officer clearly kept his knee on Mr. Floyd’s neck despite Floyd’s repetitive pleas for relief, insistence that he could not breathe, along with several minutes of his non-responsiveness. However, it took 4 days for Derek Chauvin, the arresting officer, to be arrested himself. This is incomprehensible and inexcusable.

We also recently saw a reporter and his video crew be arrested by Minneapolis State Police for what appears to be no valid reason. Anchor Omar Jimenez repeatedly, politely explained to officers that they would move anywhere police directed them to move. Regardless, no directions were given and they were arrested. The refrain repeats: incomprehensible and inexcusable. Not long ago a former law enforcement officer, his son and a neighbor chased, shot and killed jogging Amaud Arbery but 2 months passed before the assailants were arrested. The refrain repeats: incomprehensive and inexcusable.

Our collective stomachs hurt and eyes flood with indignant tears. We all want full explanations and action. However, another problem arises: generally speaking, leaders of all parties on all levels sit silent. The refrain repeats: incomprehensible and inexcusable.

Those with the power to make change must call for change. This is not the time for silence. I will never be silent but instead will stand for what’s right and confront these heart-wrenching, real-life issues.

I have been unable to verify the statement about Travis being former law enforcement. You may want to fact check this statement from your post dated May 30, 2020.

      Excellent observation. Thank you sincerely.

I am all about fact-checking but can be led astray….. I will research that point…and after doing so, edited and fixed the text.

      Thanks.
