Gifts to Restore Our Nation

Gifts to Restore Our Nation

I have been asked by numerous people what I have been thinking since the primary loss of August 18 and feel like I should share my thoughts.

In sum: nothing has changed and the essential truths remain the same.

After observing the incumbent directly to a fellow legislator in an open, televised House committee hearing,  God repeatedly brought 1 Samuel 17:45-47 to my mind.  Those key verses remain fixed and invariant.

I was clearly told that this was a David versus Goliath fight, the Church versus the Casino, and this has not changed one bit.  If anything, the primary campaign served to further elucidate the incumbent’s character defects all the more.

But I also know that my God never fails.  We know with certainty that Goliath will be defeated.  We know that I did not win the primary but since Goliath is still in office, the Church must continue its fight.

Maybe Randy will be defeated in the General Election?  Maybe the Lord’s plan was for me just to expose him and reveal more of who he is?  Maybe the Church has seen enough of his character to know that they cannot vote for him?  I do not know; we will have to see.

But another thing that has been clear to me is that God orchestrates everything for His reasons.  All we need to do is remain in prayer, follow His lead and we will see his perfect, pre-ordained results and marvel at His perfection.

One thing related to all of that is that our family has been involved in living history for approximately 10 years, all focused on our nation’s founding, pre-1840.

I recognize that this long-standing personal love for the Founders and our Constitution is part of who I am and was instilled in me for “such a time as this”.   Reading early American history, studying the Constitution and reading the Founders was just something I have always done, part of my past-times and hobbies.

That bring me to what I also see is the next stage of my life:  I really think that the Church has to become much more involved in politics and we need to see it as one of our essential roles.  We have to follow all levels of government closely and encourage our members to take active roles.

Tying these things all together brings me to the books I will be giving to you (or have given to you).

One book is on the 1st amendment and the court decisions that have resulted in the moral decay of our country.  The second book presents what the Founders said would make good government and references scripture as to what God says we must have in our leaders.  And a 3rd book is what the Founders said was essential and God-given about our 2nd amendment rights.

I have been gifting and will continue to gift these books to anyone in South Brevard who wants to help restore our nation’s Providential heritage.

I hear a clarion call that we must have a reawakening in our Church.

I am convinced that the only way to save our country is to return to having God-fearing, faith-based public servants in all levels of government and basing their decisions on Truth and Word.  Are we encouraging our members to become involved in politics?  Does the Church vote?  Are we too much in our own bibles and not willing to take action?  What does the Holy Spirit instruct us?  What should we do?  Who should we talk to?  How should we vote?

Lord, help us!  Guide us!  Help us repent and get involved.

As I said to the South Brevard Ministerial Association and to others, I do not think that I was called to just run against Randy.  I think I have been called to help the Church develop 500 members that the Lord has selected to fill seats in all levels of government.

Yes.  We need to defeat Goliath and we will.  But we also have to raise up future leaders so we have no Goliaths in office anywhere.

We need leaders who are called as the Lord has defined proper leaders (with integrity, fear of the Lord & no covetousness, Exodus 18:21).  The Goliaths who do not meet those requirements are simply unacceptable to the Lord and must be removed.

We do need to remember who Founded this nation, what they said, and how they based everything on God’s Word.  Remembering this, the Church will see its duty to fill governmental and judicial seats and to restore our nation to Godliness and devotion to the Lord.

So if these books speak to you, please get in touch with me.  I will be glad to give these to you as a gift.

Second, I continue to pray.  Those of you who were involved with my campaign in the beginning may remember “The Battle Cry” that I posted on my campaign Facebook when the incumbent began his war of libel.

Given the fact that this battle and his persistent libel continues,  I have reposted it in the form of a blog on my website.  Praying scripture is “how we roll” and is how we fight.

Pray on!  The battle is not yet complete!

The Battle Cry.

The Battle Cry.

The following scriptures were posted on my campaign Facebook page in early May 2020 when the incumbent first began his libelous campaign. I was astounded at the depth of depravity that he would go to at that point in time and it was merely his anti-Semitic accusations. Those of you who follow this page saw much more after that.

Nevertheless, post-primary 2020, the incumbent continues with his slander and libel. To me this is amazing and astounding even as, while I knew him to be of low moral character, I had no idea how low he could go or creative he could be with his lies.

Regardless, the response is the same: “The Battle Cry.” I offer this to you again as this IS the way that Chrisitans fight.

Join with me in believing these truths and acting upon them:

Write the Vision Down!!!

(Habakkuk 2:2)

You are coming against me and all of Brevard County with false testimony, fear and intimidation, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the Israelite armies, which you have defied.

This very day the Lord will put you in my power.  I will defeat you.

Then the whole of Brevard County will know that we have a God and everyone here will see that the Lord has his own powerful, mighty, righteous ways to save his people.  He is victorious in battle.

(1 Samuel 17:45-47)

The tone and attitude we must always have is humble, gentle, self-forgetful but firm, never perceived as cringy and wishy-washy.  (2 Cor 10:1). We also must always have end-less patience and never become irritated.  We are unoffendable.  (1 Tim 1:18)

We live in the world but do not wage war as the world does and our weapons are not the weapons of the world.  To the contrary, we are praying and working by the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and power.

We take on the 6 pieces of the armor of God (truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, God’s Word(, (Ephesians 6:10-20) but activate them with prayer.

Prayer is the divinely authorized mechanism God has given us to tap into His Power and to ask for His directions and guidance.

The purpose of our fight and why we use our tools is NEVER for marketing or manipulation but for demolishing that entirely massively corrupt culture.  (2 Cor 10:4).

We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God.

Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience to Him into maturity.

We demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God.

We break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God.

We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One.

We are armed with dynamic weaponry:  truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, God’s Word and prayer.

Specifically, we pray for clear, spiritual vision.  We ask that we are able to see the enemy’s activity and that we are fully aware of the spiritual resources he has given us to disarm and defeat him.

Victory is available to us but it will only come as we pray for God’s help in the battle.  Prayer is crucial.

But we always point to God (not loudly, though, but quietly, humbly and gently) and give him the glory, knowing and noting that the purpose of this campaign and our whole lives is to glorify God.

We take our orders from Him.  Just how we roll and how we believe the world should roll.

This is who we are.

Conservative vs Con-artist

Conservative vs Con-artist

It is actually amazing to me that I even have to write this current blog as I would never in a million years believe that the incumbent would stoop so low to send out a postcard claiming I am a Socialist-Democrat.

Sad.  Pathetic.  Typical.  Disgusting.  Despicable.  All characteristics of the District 53 incumbent.

Regardless, I am a Republican and a strong Trump supporter.    There is not a socialist bone in my body much less an inkling in my mind.

At the Trump flag wave in Cocoa Beach. My opponent has never attended any local Trump promotions. I also attended the recent Trump Boat Parade.

My Ph.D. is in economics and, as such, I am an advocate of free markets, limited government, limited taxes, limited regulation, all concepts standard to a Chicago School economist.

Our gate at our small farm on Valkaria Road has boasted Trump flags, flags that I got my husband for Christmas last year, far before I even entered this election.

Every sign that belongs to Marcie Adkins all over Brevard boldly posts REPUBLICAN, always in caps, at the top of the sign.  Can you say the same thing about any of the incumbent’s signs?  No.  You cannot.

In addition to my signs and our President’s, you will see several other signs from 4 more of our local strong REPUBLICANS that I support. If you go to my opponents house (that’s not even in his district) you will see his signs only.

I have attended several Trump flag waves in the past several months and will attend more.  I also attended the Trump Center grand opening on Merritt Island.  The incumbent never attended any of those events so you will never find any photos pictures or videos of him supporting Trump on his campaign.  That is because he never attended any events.

Now, there is a small smattering of truth in the incumbent’s claims:  I did register as a Republican when I first turned 18.  However, sometime during my college years at UF I was “liberalized” and switched to Democrat for a few years.   However, I switched back.

In 1996, twenty-four years ago, I left Tallahassee to move back home to Brevard, to marry my husband and to create our family.  In 1999, I registered as a REPUBLICAN in Brevard County and  I have been a proud REPUBLICAN ever since.  (See Webelect print out.  Webelect is a Republican software program that tracks Republicans, when they registered and how they vote.  You can see my “batting average” is high, and can be relied on to vote 99 percent of the time in primaries and 99 percent of the time in general elections.)

My actual hand written voter registration from the 90s.

In contrast, you can see that the incumbent only been registered as a Brevard County Republican since July 2007 or for 13 years.  In addition, he is not nearly as reliable as a Republican voter, only voting in primaries 83% of the time and in general elections 96% of the time.

And if all of that is still not enough, here is an email from our Supervisor of Elections herself to my campaign manager just last week. She clearly states that I registered as a REPUBLICAN in 1999 and have been ever since.

Also dragged into this is my campaign manager, and his party affiliation. It is often claimed by my opponent and others that Robert Burns is a democrat. He is not. He is a proud United States Army honorably Retired registered Republican. Despite my opponent claiming he is neither. He is also 100% disabled from injuries sustained in combat.

As you can see, in this campaign, we provide evidence to support our claims and positions. Please apply the same standard to my opponent.

Finally here is an article today from Florida Daily showing almost every REPUBLICAN leader in Brevard County to include the Chair of the Brevard Republican Party denouncing my opponent.

I would very much appreciate you sharing this information with your friends.  This is a grass roots campaign and we need each other to spread the truth and to combat the lies.

Thank you very much!

The American way and personal responsibility

The American way and personal responsibility

All of us here in South Brevard have watched in amazement as pillaging, violence and looting has destroyed many liberal cities in the United States.  We have heard repeated calls for “defunding the police” and have furrowing our collective brows thinking, “Unbelievable!  Are they crazy!”

Then, just this week, we have heard the Minneapolis police have called for their citizens to “obey the criminals”.

Enough is enough.  Time for some real leadership here in South Brevard, a place where we understand truth, justice, the American way and personal responsibility.

When I say that it is time for some real leadership, I am not just speaking of the elected leaders.  You know how I stand:  I am a firm second amendment advocate who objects to the loss of gun rights which have fallen at the hands of liberal legislators (including, of course, the liberal incumbent who voted for Parkland and red flag laws) and who will work tirelessly to have our rights restored.

You know strong our law enforcement officers are. Sheriff Wayne Ivey is an awesome sheriff and he will never stand idly by and bow to criminals, nor will any of our other local police chiefs.

When I speak of the fact that it is time for leadership, I am speaking to YOU.  Now is the time when we ALL refuse to stand idly by and allow lawlessness and disorder because in South Brevard WE ALL take personal responsibility for our safety.

Here in South Brevard, we are a strong, vibrant, safe community that will never see lawlessness because we:

(1) Back the Blue,

(2) We train in the use of firearms and believe we are all personally responsible for our self-protection, and we

(3) Understand and seek to preserve the inalienable right of individual self-protection.

Towards those ends, I would very much encourage all of you to do the following:

  • Find and like the Brevard Facebook group “We Back our Blue!” and like it.
  • Mark your calendars and attend the upcoming “We Back our Blue!” event on Sunday, August 16 at the Liberty Bell Museum at 1 pm.
  • Commit to training and improving your marksmanship at least once per month.  (If you have not yet begun your own training, contact me and we can help point you in the right direction.  We have many wonderful local gun shops and trainers to meet every training need.)
  • Study our American history and the original spoken and written words of our Founders discussing what they frequently called the “first law of nature”, the right of self-protection, an inalienable right guaranteed to every citizen individually by our Constitution.  (If you do not yet have a library full of what the Founders said, again, see me!  I have purchased a case of one of my favorite books on the subject and will be glad to get you a copy.)

Brevard is a very special place.  I am thankful for what we have, who we are and how we will all work together to ensure our personal safety now and for all of our future generations.

Florida Gun Rights Rates Marcie Adkins 100% Pro Gun

Florida Gun Rights

“The right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

As ardent supporters of the Second Amendment, you and I know these words are absolutely critical to a free society.

With the primary election season heating up here in Florida, virtually all politicians are claiming they support the Second Amendment.

Yet once safely elected into office, many of the politicians in BOTH parties vote to restrict your freedoms in a “common sense” way.

We saw this in 2018, when 67 NRA “A-Rated” Republicans voted for the largest gun control expansion in state history, and again this year when Senate President Bill Galvano and his colleague Tom Lee pushed for Universal Gun Registration.1

Unless you and I get politicians on record before they get in office and hold them accountable for their votes once they are elected, we will continue to see Republican-sponsored gun control in Tallahassee.

That’s why I sent the Florida Gun Rights Candidate Survey to candidates running for the State Legislature — to get them on the record in support of restoring and defending our gun rights.

Unfortunately, Republican incumbent State Representative Randy Fine in House District 53 refuses to return his Candidate Survey and go on record in support of your gun rights.

This is no surprise since Randy Fine has a history of voting for gun control!2

In 2018, Randy Fine voted to strip military-aged adults of their right to purchase a firearm.

If they are old enough to go fight for our country in the military, they are old enough to purchase a firearm.

Unfortunately, Randy Fine disagrees and sided with Bloomberg-funded gun control lobbyists to strip these American citizens of their rights.

Randy Fine also voted in favor of “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation orders!

Gun confiscation orders are the latest “common sense” solution being pushed by the Gun Control Lobby, and Republicans like Randy Fine are joining them.

“Red Flag” laws allow government agents to confiscate legally-owned firearms from otherwise law-abiding citizens and deny them the right to keep and bear arms, with very little evidence and no crime ever having been committed.

These laws force gun owners to go before a court after the fact to prove they aren’t guilty, effectively turning the American legal system on its head.

Since the time Fine voted for this outrageous gun control, nearly 4,000 petitions have been filed to confiscate guns without due process — with some petitions for gun confiscation being filed against children as young as 8 years old.

But there is also good news for House District 53.

Republican candidate Marcie Adkins returned her Florida Gun Rights Candidate Survey 100% pro-gun!

By returning her survey, Marcie Adkins pledged to support a full repeal of Florida’s due process-shredding “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation laws.

Adkins also pledged to support the repeal of the draconian law forbidding military-aged adults from purchasing long guns.

Finally, Marcie Adkins pledged her support for solid pro-gun Constitutional Carry legislation.

Constitutional Carry simply means that anyone who can legally possess a firearm can carry it openly or concealed without a government permission slip.

Currently, exercising your Second Amendment rights without a Concealed Weapon License (CWL) in Florida is punishable with a felony charge carrying with it up to five years in prison for what is essentially a victimless crime.

To put this in perspective, it is only a misdemeanor to carry without a permit in the gun control haven of California.

But here in Florida, exercising your constitutional right to carry without first going through the bureaucratic rigmarole to obtain a CWL is punished MORE severely than physically assaulting a police officer.

On top of that, the open carry of firearms in Florida is also illegal, putting the “Gunshine State” in league with anti-gun liberal states like California, Illinois, and New York.

There are already 15 states that have Constitutional Carry laws on the books and many of these states are consistently ranked as the safest in the nation — it’s time for Florida to join them.

That’s why Florida Gun Rights is calling on pro-gun Floridians to lobby their candidates now before they get into office.

We must make it clear that we expect our elected officials to not only oppose new gun control measures, but also to go to Tallahassee to be a leader in the fight to repeal the draconian measures already on the books.

Ultimately, when politicians refuse to take a stand in support of the Second Amendment, you can be almost certain that the rest of your constitutional rights aren’t high on their list of priorities either.

That’s why Florida Gun Rights is dedicated to keeping Floridians informed about the true positions of our elected officials and candidates.

With supporters all across the state, we are giving gun owners a loud voice in defense of our rights.

And trust me, the politicians can hear you.

There is no better time to lobby them than when they are seeking your support at election time.

So please contact Randy Fine at (321) 409-2017 and insist he reverse course and start standing for the Second Amendment by returning his Florida Gun Rights Candidate Survey!

Then contact Marcie Adkins at (321) 701-4501 and thank her for returning her Florida Gun Rights Candidate Survey and urge her to continue standing firm for your right to keep and bear arms.

With our rights at stake, now is the time to take action!

For Freedom,

D.J. Parten
Executive Director
Florida Gun Rights

P.S. The August 18th primary election is just around the corner, and now is the best time to lobby your candidates.

Unfortunately, incumbent State Rep. Randy Fine has a record of voting for gun control and refuses to return his Florida Gun Rights Candidate Survey.

Please contact Randy Fine at (321) 409-2017 and insist he reverse his anti-gun stances and start supporting the Second Amendment!

But there is also good news for House District 53. Republican candidate Marcie Adkins returned her Florida Gun Rights Candidate Survey 100% pro-gun.

Please contact Marcie Adkins at (321) 701-4501 and urge her to continue standing firm for your right to keep and bear arms.

Brevard County Clerk of Courts Scott Ellis Endorses Republican Marcie Adkins Over the Incumbent for Florida House District 53 Race

Brevard County Clerk of Courts Scott Ellis Endorses Republican Marcie Adkins Over the Incumbent for Florida House District 53 Race

“I heartily endorse Marcie Adkins as by far our best choice for the Florida Legislature.

Ms. Adkins was raised in Brevard and knows our community well.

She’s an intelligent even-tempered individual who will be a positive voice for Brevard and the State of Florida.

Marcie Adkins will be a State Representative we will all respect, as she will respect all citizens of our home.”

Scott Ellis

I am so honored and humbled to receive the endorsement and confidence of such an honorable republican leader in our community. Scott Ellis has committed his life to serving Brevard, and has done so with integrity and honor. He is an example of a true conservative who is fiscally responsible, and understands how every aspect of our local government works.

Marcie Adkins

As we all think about politics and the MANY huge catastrophes that have come upon us this year, we are all asking ourselves, “How do we act? How do we behave? How do we and should we move forward?”

We have been in shock. The Covid-19 pandemic came at us from out of the blue. We were shut down, locked up, and told to stay home. I do not describe this situation with derision as I certainly believe that it was the correct, wise choice for us to stay home given the huge uncertainty.

Do we walk directly into a forest fire when it rages or do we stay home? Of course! We stay home and let the fire fighters fight it for us. Covid-19 has been no different. Regardless, we were shut down and kept home. However, new problems were created as unemployment soared and our social fabric was altered.

Then we witnessed a cold-blooded murder by kneeing. That was easy to condemn as evil of any kind is unacceptable and thankfully the officers were charged and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. We were in shock and we all voiced our outrage as murder and clear police brutality is NEVER acceptable.

But our collective mouths opened back up and we have been muted while glued to the televisions when destruction and anarchy resulted and continues.

I have been asking myself and others: why did the subsequent violent destruction and anarchy (which continues) mute me?

I have pondered that because I, generally speaking, am not the silent type. Of course, it is not that I support destruction or anarchy in any form or fashion but I think it was that I was so shocked that I was caught off guard.

Perhaps it is something akin to being a “deer caught in the headlights”. Nonetheless, despite screaming at the tv and at my family and friends, I have been publicly mute. Wordless.

I also have learned that there is wisdom in silence, to never speak in anger, but to only speak gently, calmly and with compassion and love. (And so much that I have seen has angered me.)

Now we see #BLM and M4BL. This has also caught me off guard as well as while I lovingly support all black people who lives matter, I have problems with so much that #BLM and M4BL stand for. Specifically, I object to #BLM’s and M4BL’s support for destruction of all kinds, including, for example, abortions, socialism, and defunding the police.

The problem, however, with a Christian or anyone in our society being silent is that if we are silent, others create narratives and put words in our mouths that we have never uttered.

Public silence also allows further destruction of our society and permits continued looting, pillaging, destruction of businesses, monuments and our history. What good does it do for me to sit in the enclosed safety of my home yelling at the tv? Does the television care that the demonstrators and anarchists have no respect for others’ businesses, lives or that anger and rage never justifies more wrong-doing?

For my entire life I have led a quiet, private life, focused on my family, my career, my home and my church. I understand the temptation to be silent and, as I have written above, I have been muted during the past few weeks. It is tempting to be silent, to focus on family alone, attend our churches, synagogues or mosques and to do private works of charity. After all, what can we say? And it sure is tough to talk when our mouths have been dropped open. We have no words.

But can we stay home and be silent? NO! We must form words. For such a time as this, more so than at any other time of our lives, we must form words. We must engage politically and culturally. Why? God’s Word calls us to be faithful to Him, to his Word and to our culture. Specifically, he calls us to be the light of the world and to point to Him. God is the source of all human dignity and everything that is right and good. He actually describes this situation very clearly for us in His Word and makes it simple for us.

Every single crisis we have faced this year is nothing more than a battle between Good and Evil. We know clearly that satan’s purpose always is to seek, kill and destroy. He divides, creates fury, anger and is the author of ALL death and destruction. The devil wants nothing more than for us to be completely separated from God and Love.

What do we do in response?

We do not sit idly on our couches, do we? No. We do not. To ignore our moral obligations would be to abandon all those who are vulnerable to the left’s dangerous program of cultural destruction, of dehumanization, of economic destruction, and of suppression of liberty.

What do we do?

We see our legal, political, and moral obligation to advance a compassionate, socially necessary and indisputably God-based agenda. We speak. But we speak civilly, lovingly, and with integrity, respect for all others, and we work together to advance God’s kingdom and the United States of America.

We have endless patience. We are never irritated, we are unoffendable, we do not argue, we do not hate and we do not name call. We collect ourselves and behave civilly, meeting fury and destruction with calmness and love. We reason. We pray.

Let’s make America great again…….but to do so, we must turn off the mute button and speak in love, the greatest of all things.

My opponent has made a series of social media posts demanding Brevard’s local municipalities put on a traditional 4th of July celebration. He’s reminded everyone almost daily that he is offering to use $20,000 to pay for it. He has even taken the liberty to name the event after himself.

Today is Flag Day the day which commemorates the adoption of the first flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.

Various interpretations of our flag’s symbolism have been presented over the years, my favorite being that made by President Ronald Reagan in 1986.  “The colors of our flag signify the qualities of the human spirit we Americans cherish. Red for courage and readiness to sacrifice; white for pure intentions and high ideals; and blue for vigilance and justice.”

The flag also evokes sentiments about everything that it means to be American:  federalism, integrity, respect for others, collaboration, unity and dignity.

Federalism or the distribution of power from the national government down to the states is a hallmark of our American system.  In Florida, we also have home rule whereby power is transferred from the state down to the local or municipal level for all local decision making.

Unfortunately, there is always a tension in this system with those at higher levels of government always wanting to grab the power and authority for decision-making, an effort I oppose.

Disrespect is one of the key attributes that I have seen in the incumbent’s character.  I have observed disrespect for others across the board in all his dealings but, in particular, the incumbent is repeatedly disrespectful when dealing with local government.  Why, we must ask ourselves, is it that he cannot respect the local governments’ decisions to not have the fireworks celebrations?

Government’s #1 job is to provide safety. If the local governments have decided not to hold fireworks celebrations due to concerns over Covid19, their decisions should be respected.   Financial concerns are always key in local decision making and may well have played a role as well.

Local officials were elected to make these tough decisions.   I respect the decisions of our local leaders and am committed to putting an end to the trend of attacking them from the District 53 Representative’s office.

In addition, it seems to me that another of the incumbent’s main passions is his need for headlines and of gaining notoriety.  As such, I believe he is attacking local elected officials for his own personal gain, frankly, trying to turn this national holiday into a campaign event.

See this for what it is.  See the truth.  And then let’s respect our local elected officials and their decision making on the 2020 fireworks celebrations.

The second Amendment of our Constitution reads: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

It is essential to realize that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms” means we ALL have the right to own guns.

The fact that this inherent, essential, fundamental, primal, ancient, natural right to bear arms has been enshrined in the U.S. Constitution means that NO legislative body has the right to prohibit firearm possession.  Americans may all arm themselves for traditional lawful purposes. Furthermore, ALL prohibitive or restrictive regulations or laws created by any state or local governments are unconstitutional.

Anyone who debates this issue wrongly emphasizes the words “a well-regulated Militia”.  Clearly, to emphasize this clause wrongly interprets the Second Amendment and interprets that the focus of the Second Amendment was to protect our militias.[1]  Those holding this incorrect view also typically add the collaterally wrong interpretation that it does NOT mean that citizens have inherent individual rights to possess guns.   While I can understand this confusion, it is important to realize that this is simply confusion and wrong thinking which our U.S. Supreme Court has corrected in its June 26, 2008 decision District of Columbia v. Heller.

In Heller, our Supreme Court affirmed that the Second Amendment protects our individual, natural, ancient rights to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes such as self-defense or hunting.  The Court also clarified that the prefatory clause about the “militia” was inserted as Antifederalists feared that the Federal Government would disarm people in order to disable our two militias, thus we wanted to protect our right to bear arms so as to protect our two militias.  The U.S. Supreme Court also pointed to the history and tradition of the Second Amendment at the time of the Constitutional Convention, i.e., there were many individual arms-bearing rights in State constitutions both before and after the U.S. Constitution was drafted.

Given these facts and our inherent, natural, Constitutionally-guaranteed rights to bear arms, what must be done in Florida to correct our previous unlawful, un-Constitutional decision making?

Recognize that the Parkland bill created 2 wrongs which legislators must correct:

(1) it unlawfully restricted the rights of those 18-21 years of age from bearing arms and it

(2) created un-necessary, illegal restrictions on gun ownership when it redefined one of the background check statuses that unjustifiably restricted some potential gun owners for an indefinite period of time.

Legislators must determine how to correct these 2 Parkland wrongs and return Floridian’s Constitutional rights to bear arms to us.

Another issue that I would very much like the legislature to address is the Department of Agriculture’s CWL permit process.  I have personally experienced the fact that the DOA’s system is awkward, time-consuming, cumbersome, inefficient and wastes staff time when I applied for my own CWL permit.  Legislative oversight is a huge role for a Representative.  I will insist that the CWL permit process is either vastly improved or removed from the DOA.

How do I differ from the incumbent on these issues?  The incumbent:

(1) wrongly voted FOR Parkland.

(2) later, the incumbent stated that he made a mistake and that he would reverse Parkland but has not made any efforts toward doing so.

(3) his position on Department of Agriculture control of CWL permits is not clear to me as I have not heard his comments or observed his actions on this topic.

[1] It is important to note that the Florida Statutes in 250.02(1)-(4) define two militias.

(1) Florida’s unorganized militia “consists of all able-bodied citizens of this state and all other able-bodied persons who have declared their intention to become citizens, who are subject to military duty but who are not members of units of the organized militia”.

(2) Florida’s organized militia is “composed of the National Guard and any other organized military forces that are authorized by law”.

Amidst the outrage that is everything in the United States today, I posted on my campaign page Saturday that I stand with our President and Barr.  That is true, I do.

However, there is MORE which I do not think they are hearing, voices of those I love that I am embarrassed to say that I didn’t hear at first because of my shock and outrage.

Yes.  We all universally condemn George Floyd’s murder. Yes.  We all universally expect our LEOs to protect and serve us and demand that they do. Yes.  The violence and destruction IS pure evil heaped upon evil and must stop. Yes.  The violence does come from organized groups.

However:  there IS more.

There IS the truth of wrongfully incarcerated young black men.  There IS the truth of systemic poverty and crime arising from desperation. There IS systemic, long-standing racism.  There is a component of these protests born from these facts.

Yesterday, I spoke directly to one of the voices that I know and love from the boxing gym.  He is a prosperous, good, righteous Christian black man that I have worked with in the past.  However, he was wrongfully accused of a crime long ago and served a lot of time for it.  He has ALWAYS amazed me that he could be strong enough to forgive and move past the wrongs and thrive.

We didn’t speak of his story yesterday — we only spoke of how he is feeling right now and our lives.  But he is the kind of man we must look to in the future to help us re-build our society.  He is the leader of tomorrow and has been a strong leader of today for our youth for many years.

So, I apologize to this man and the many others that I have known by long-standing, intimate, boxing relationships.  You the silent, quiet, Godly, protesting but completely non-violent ones and are the voices we need to hear.  YOU will be the leaders of our future.  We need you to help hear your stories and understand them and establish our vision for the future, help us define the end-game, how to build up, not tear down.

Let us all be quiet enough to get to know them and hear them.  They are the silent praying types.

Listen.  You can hear them with your heart.
